Charles Gage opened a restaurant at 302 Fulton Street in 1879. By 1892 it had moved to its current location at 372 Fulton Street, where it ran continuously until Valentine's Day 2004, spending time as a TGI Fridays and an Arby's before chefs Sohui Kim, Ben Schneider, and St. John Frizell raised community funding to restore it in 2021. Both an individual and interior landmark, the third space ever to receive interior landmark designation in New York City. Vintage mirrors, cherry wood, brass chandeliers, amber glow. The menu honors the room: seafood towers, big steaks, crab cakes, fried chicken with cornmeal fritters that trace their lineage to Edna Lewis who ran the kitchen in the late 1980s. On the New York Times Best Restaurants list every year since reopening. OpenTable drops at midnight, 31 days out.
