Opened in 1937, Le Veau d'Or is the longest-running French bistro in New York. Grace Kelly and Orson Welles drank here. Riad Nasr and Lee Hanson, who spent six years courting the owner before she agreed to pass it on, reopened it in 2024 with a $135 prix fixe menu reverential to classical French bistro cooking: pate en croute, poulet a l'estragon with tarragon butter sauce, tripes a la mode prepared in the Caen style, chocolate gratin. The room is 50 seats of low ceilings, red and white checkered tablecloths, cherry-red banquettes, and a five-seat bar for walk-ins. Derek Summerlin, grandson of the previous owner, serves as maitre d'. OpenTable opens at 9 AM, 15 days out.
